What's Being Discussed

Ministerial level instead of heads of state

For cost reasons, the federal government has decided not to invite heads of state and government. The summit will be held at the ministerial level; according to Federal Councilor Rösti, security costs for heads of state would run into the tens of millions.

Small Budget

At around 6 million Swiss francs, the summit is significantly less expensive than previous editions. Critics see this as a lack of ambition, while others see it as an opportunity for a more democratic summit.

Parliament Wants More Influence

On October 2, 2026, members of all six parliamentary groups submitted a joint motion: Switzerland should work toward establishing international minimum standards in Geneva to address the extreme risks posed by the most powerful models.
