The catalyst: AI developments in 2022
In 2022, the digital world was undergoing an exciting transformation. With GPT-3 already on the market for two years, the tech community was eagerly awaiting the next revolution. OpenAI did not disappoint and released a chatbot based on the improved GPT-3.5 version. This paved the way for a multitude of online offerings, academies, and tutorials. There was a veritable gold rush atmosphere in the AI scene.
The Founding of the swissAI AI Association
Amid all this excitement, Chris Beyeler saw another opportunity. Instead of jumping on the hype bandwagon, he focused on knowledge sharing and community building. He launched his mission on LinkedIn and invited interested individuals to participate in a survey. The first exchange took place on March 17, 2023. The founding members included Luca Conconi, Ona Kammermann, and Qris Riner.
Rapid Growth and Focus
Just one week later, the group had nearly doubled in size, and the weekly meetings consistently drew up to 15 participants. The discussions focused on various AI tools and their applications in different fields of work.
From a loose group to an established AI association
In the summer of 2023, a decisive step was taken: the decision was made to establish an association. In a short period of time—and even during the summer break—a logo was designed, a website was created, and content was written, all through remote work. But as the work progressed, it became clear to the members that a simple association would not be enough to fulfill their ambitious vision. This marked the birth of swissAI as an AI association.
